1Pe_1:3-12. Praise to God for the grace of which the Christians had been made the partakers. The prominence which the apostle gives to ἀναγεννᾷν εἰς ἐλπίδα ζῶσαν , as also his designation of them as ἐκλεκτοὶ παρεπίδημοι , is occasioned by the present state of suffering in which his readers were, and above which he is desirous of raising them.
