is the beforehand in reference to the future realization (Herod. i. 53, vii. 116; Lucian. Jov. Trag. 30; Polyb. vi. 3. 2) at the

; and the past
προεῖπον
reminds the readers of the instructions and warnings orally given to them, the tenor of which justifies us in thinking that he is referring to the first and second sojourn in Galatia.

μετάνοια
he again enters into the life of faith, and so by renewed faith appropriates forgiveness (2Co_7:9-10; Rom_8:34; 1Jn_2:1 f.; observe the present participle). For the having been reconciled by faith is the preliminary condition of the new holy life (Romans 6), and therefore does not cancel responsibility in the judgment (2Co_5:10; Rom_14:10).
