This Chapter Verse Commentaries:

Heb_3:8. Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation (contumacy), on the day of temptation in the wilderness. In the original, παραπικρασμός and πειρασμός are proper names (“as at Meribah, as on the day of Massah in the wilderness” [ ëÌÄîÀøÄéáÈä ëÌÀéå̇í îÇñÌÈä áÌÇîÌÄãÀáÌÈø ]), which, however, are understood by the author in the appellative sense (comp. Heb_3:16), in that he takes κατὰ τὴν ἡμέραν τοῦ πειρασμοῦ as an epexegetical note of time to ἐν τῷ παραπικρασμῷ . On the history, comp. Exo_17:1-7; Num_20:1-13.

τοῦ πειρασμοῦ ] in the active sense: the tempting of God by contumacious behaviour, comp. Heb_3:9.
