This Chapter Verse Commentaries:
Joh_14:29. And now, even now, when my departure is approaching, I have said it to you, namely, ὅτι πορεύομαι πρὸς τ . π ., Joh_14:28, not what was said in Joh_14:26, as Lücke thinks.
ὅταν γένηται ] cum factum fuerit, namely, through my death; comp. Joh_13:19.
πιστεύσητε ] Not absolutely, so that it would express of itself what is more precisely denned in Joh_13:19 by ὅτι ἐγώ εἰμι ; but: that you may believe it, namely, that I have gone to the Father. Comp. πιστεύετέ μοι , Joh_14:11. The point for the departing Lord was, that when His approaching death should take place, the disciples should have the true believing apprehension of it, namely, as His departure to the Father.
