This Chapter Verse Commentaries:
Joh_16:1. Ταῦτα λελάλ . ὑμῖν ] As the same expression, Joh_15:11, pointed back to the preceding section, Joh_16:1-10, and then ταῦτα ἐντέλλομαι ὑμῖν , Joh_16:17, to Joh_16:11-16, so here ταῦτα λελ . ὑμ . refers to Joh_15:18-27, so that the substantial contents of this section are intended, namely, that which had been said of the hatred of the world.
ἵνα μὴ σκανδαλ .] Comp. Mat_13:21; Mat_24:10; Mat_11:6. Prepared beforehand, and armed by Christ’s communications, they were not to be made to stumble at Him, but were to oppose to the hatred of the world all the greater efficiency and constancy of faith.
