This Chapter Verse Commentaries:
Joh_7:53. Belonging to the spurious section concerning the adulteress. “And every one went”—every one, that is, of those assembled in the temple—to his own house; so that the end of the scene described in Joh_7:37 f. is related. Chap. Joh_8:1 is against the view which understands it of the members of the Sanhedrim, who separated without attaining their object (against Grotius, Lampe, etc., even Maier and Lange). Chap. Joh_8:2 forbids our taking it as referring to the pilgrims at the feast returning to their homes (Paulus).
