In thus insisting as they did upon yet further proof, they were actuated by a malicious desire to put Him to the test and reduce Him to silence.

In deference to Mar_8:11, Luk_11:16, many erroneously suppose that in this instance it is specially a
σημεῖον
ἐκ
τοῦ
οὐρανοῦ
that is meant. In Mat_16:1, however, the sign is being requested for the second time.
