Mat_2:15. Τὸν υἱόν μου ] refers in Hos_11:1 (quoted according to the original text) to the people of Israel (Exo_4:22; Jer_31:9). The Septuagint has τὰ τέκνα αὐτοῦ (Israelis). Upon the ἵνα πληρωθῇ , see on Mat_1:22. Here it refers to the arrival of Jesus in Egypt and His residence there, which could not but take place as an antitype to the historical meaning of Hos_11:1, in order that that declaration of the prophet might receive its Messianic fulfilment.
