The Synoptists make no mention of the judicial examination before Annas (Joh_18:13); their narrative is for this reason incomplete, though it does not exclude such examination (Luk_22:66). As for the trial before the members of the Sanhedrim, which took place at the house of Caiaphas, John merely alludes to it, Mat_18:24, where, however,

is not to be taken as a pluperfect.
