Through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ; such a knowledge of Christ as brings with it an outward reformation of life, though it do not purify the heart. For that the apostle doth not here speak of those that were rooted in Christ by a saving and heart purifying faith, appears by 2Pe_2:14, where he calls them
unstable souls.
They are again entangled therein, and overcome; return to their old sins, yield up themselves to them, and continue in them.
