JEREMIAH CHAPTER 39

Jerusalem is taken: Zedekiah’s sons are slain; his eyes put out; he is sent to Babylon: all the nobles of Judah are slain: the city is burnt, and the chief of the people carried captive, Jer_39:1-10. Nebuchadrezzar’s charge concerning Jeremiah, Jer_39:11-14. God’s promise to Ebed-melech, Jer_39:15-18.

This exactly agreeth with the historical part of Scripture, 2Ki_25:1, and with the repetition of it, Jer_52:4. This month was called Tebeth, Est_2:16, and answers to part of our December and January. Princes are said to do that which is done by their officers by their order, yet some think Nebuchadnezzar came first in person, though he quickly left his army, and was not there at the taking of the city.
