In this and the two next verses he proves, that it was foretold of old, by Esaias the prophet, that God should pass by the greatest part of the Jews, and save only a remnant, or a few of them.



Crieth; hereby is noted the prophet’s zeal, or his openness and plainness. The testimony recorded, is found in Isa_10:22,23.



As the sand of the sea; for number or multitude, for so the promise was to Abraham, Gen_22:17 32:12.



Shall be saved: Isaiah saith, shall return; i.e. from the captivity, or from sin, as it is, Isa_10:21. This shows, none can be saved but they who return and repent.
