EARING.—Gen_45:6, ‘There shall be neither earing nor harvest.’ ‘Earing’ is the old expression for ‘ploughing.’ The verb ‘to ear’ (connected with Lat. arare) also occurs, as Deu_21:4 ‘a rough valley, which is neither eared nor sown.’
