HEBRON (‘association’).—1. The third son of Kohath, known to us only from P [Note: Priestly Narrative.] (Exo_6:18, Num_3:19; Num_3:27) and the Chronicler (1Ch_6:2; 1Ch_6:18; 1Ch_15:9; 1Ch_23:12; 1Ch_23:19). The Hebronites are mentioned at the census taken in the wilderness of Sinai (Num_3:27), and appear again at the later census in the plains of Moab (26:53); cf. also 1Ch_15:9; 1Ch_23:19; 1Ch_26:23; 1Ch_26:30 f. 2. A son of Mareshah and father of Korah, Tappuah, Rekem, and Shema (1Ch_2:42-43).
