INFIDEL.—This word has more force now than formerly. In AV [Note: Authorized Version.] it signifies no more than ‘unbeliever.’ It occurs in 2Co_6:15, 1Ti_5:8 (RV [Note: Revised Version.] ‘unbeliever’ in both). So ‘infidelity’ in 2Es_7:44 is simply ‘unbelief’ (Lat. incredulitas).
