JUDGMENT-SEAT.—The usual word employed for this in the NT is bçma (Mat_27:19, Joh_19:13, Act_18:12; Act_18:16 f., Act_25:6; Act_25:10; Act_25:17, Rom_14:10, 2Co_5:10), properly a ‘tribune.’ In the NT the word is used of the official seat (tribunal) of the Roman judge. The word kritçrion used in Jam_2:5 occurs also in 1Co_6:2; 1Co_6:4, where it is translated in RVm [Note: Revised Version margin.] by ‘tribunal.’ See, further, art. Gabbatha.
