MAKE.—In Jdg_18:3 ‘to make’ means ‘to do’—‘What makest thou in this place?’ In Joh_8:53 ‘Whom makest thou thyself?’, and Joh_19:7 ‘He made himself the Son of God,’ ‘make’ means ‘pretend to be’; cf. Jos_8:15 ‘Joshua and all Israel made as if they were beaten.’ This is the meaning also in 2Sa_13:5 ‘Lay thee down on thy bed, and make thyself sick.’ In Eze_17:17 ‘Neither shall Pharaoh with his mighty army and great company make for him in the war,’ ‘make for’ means ‘assist.’
