ABIGAIL, or ABIGAL.—1. Wife of Nabal (1Sa_25:14). She dissuaded David from avenging himself on the surly farmer, and soon after the latter’s death married David (1Sa_25:39-42), and accompanied him to Gath and Ziklag (1Sa_27:3; 1Sa_30:5; 1Sa_30:18). At Hebron she bore him a son, whose name may have been Chileab (2Sa_3:3), or Daniel (1Ch_3:1), or Dodiel (the LXX [Note: Septuagint.] at 2Sa_3:3 has Daluya). 2. Step-sister of David, mother of Amasa (2Sa_17:25, 1Ch_2:16 f.).
