QUIT.—The adj. ‘quit’ (from Lat. quietus) means ‘free from obligation,’ as Exo_21:19 ‘Then shall he that smote him be quit.’ The vb. ‘to quit’ (from Lat. quietare) is used in AV [Note: Authorized Version.] reflexively—quit oneself, i.e. discharge one’s obligations, as 1Co_16:13 ‘Quit you like men.’
