SHAVEH, VALE OF.—A broad valley (‘çmeq), known also as ‘the king’s vale’ (Gen_14:17), which was near Salem. It is apparently the same place as ‘the king’s dale’ (2Sa_18:18), in which Absalom set up a pillar or monument. Shaven was possibly the broad open head of the valley of Hinnom which, lower down, contracts to a ravine.
