SHUSHAN (Dan_8:2, Neh_1:1 etc.).—The Susa (Ad. Est 11:3) of the Greeks, now Sus or Shush in S. W. Persia, between the Shapur and the river of Dizful (the ancient Koprates). It was for many centuries the capital of Elam, and afterwards one of the three capitals of the Persian empire. Cf. also Elam.
