Subjects in this Topic:

TRIPOLIS.—An important town in northern Phœnicla, where Demetrius Soter landed when he made his successful attack against Antiochus v. (2Ma_14:1). It was divided into three parts, originating in colonies from Tyre, Sidon, and Arvad—hence the name. The modern Tarâbulûs is two miles inland, its fort occupying the site of the ancient city on the coast.
