Vers. solely of the Heb. îַëְðְñִéַí , miknesa'yim, two drawers (from ëָּðִñ , to wrap up), Sept. ðåñéóêåëῆ (so Sir_45:8) or ðåñéóêåëÝò , Vulg. feminalia, made of linen, and worn by the Jewish priests to hide the parts of shame while ministering at the altar (Exo_28:42; Exo_39:28; Lev_6:10; Lev_16:4; Eze_44:18). The description of Josephus ( ὡóðåñåß ἀíáîõñßäåò , Ant. 3:7, 1) agrees with this, making this article (which he Graecizes ìáíá÷áóή ) of sacerdotal dress to be an under-garment for the loins and thighs only.
