a cluster of stars, stands in the Auth. Vers. only in Isa_13:10 (“the stars of heaven and constellations thereof shall not give their light”), for the Heb. ëְּñַéì , kesil' (in the plur.), i.e. the fat or clear (Sept. ᾿Ùñßùí , Vulg. splendor), as a designation apparently of the large starry bodies generally. The same (Heb.) word elsewhere designates some special assemblage of stars (“Orion,” Job_9:9; Job_38:31; Amo_5:8); and once the name of a town (“Chesil,” Jos_15:30). (See Schnaar, Ueb. d.
