born at Chartres in 680, was for fourteen years a hermit, and then went to Rome, where the pope, Gregory II, consecrated him bishop. He returned to his solitude, and afterwards traveled along the Danube and the Isar to preach. Duke Theodo II of Bavaria appointed him first bishop of Freising.
