(only in the dat. plur. ἐí Á᾿ëÝìïéò ), one of the fortified cities in Gilead beyond the Jordan, occupied in the time of Judas Maccabeus, to the oppression of the Jews, by the Gentiles, in connection with certain neighboring towns (1Ma_5:26). Grimm (Handb. zu d. Maccabees in loc.) thinks it is probably the BEER-ELIM SEE BEER-ELIM (q.v.) of Isa_15:8 (SEE BEER simply in Num_21:16), an identification favored by the associated names (Bozrah and Carnaim).
