( ἐðéãïíÜôéïí ), a portion of the sacerdotal habit, used in both the Greek and Roman. churches, consisting of an appendage somewhat resembling a small maniple, on the right side hanging from, the girdle. In the Roman Church it is worn only by the pope. In the Greek Church it is borne by all bishops, and consists of brocade, velvet, or some stiff material, a foot in dimensions, with a cross wrought upon it, and tassels hanging from the three lower corners. It is not used in the English Church, SEE VESTMENTS.
