is the rendering in the Auth. Vers. of the following words: àåֹöָø , otsar', a treasure, as it is usually rendered, a store or stock of goods laid up, hence the place where they are deposited (Joe_1:17; "treasury," 2Ch_32:27); îֶæֶå , me'zev (Sept. ôáìåῖïí ), a cell or store-room (Psalm cxliv. 13); ἀðïèήêç , a repository-or place for storing away anything, especially a granary (Mat_3:12; Luk_3:17; elsewhere "barn"). SEE BARN. Cisterns (q.v.) are often used for this purpose in the East (Thomson, Land and Book, 2:262 sq.). The structures of the ancient Egyptians for the storage of grain were above ground, and of great importance in so eminently a grain-growing country. SEE AGRICULTURE.
