( òַéø äִîֵּìַç , city of the salt, so called prob. from the salt rocks still found in that vicinity; Sept. ἡ ðüëéò ôῶí ἁëῶí ,Vulg. civitas salis, Auth. Vers. “City of Salt”), a city in the Desert of Judah, mentioned between Nibshan and En-gedi (Jos_15:62); probably situated near the south-western part of the Dead Sea. Compare the “Valley of Salt” (2Sa_8:13; Psa_60:2).
