Vers. “Ismaiah.”) — A Gibeonite, one of the chiefs of those warriors who relinquished the cause of Saul, the head (of their tribe, and joined themselves to David-when he was at Ziklag (1Ch_12:4). B.C. 1046. he is described as “a hero (gibbor) among the thirty and over the thirty” — i.e. David's body-guard; but his name does not appear in the lists of the guard in 2 Samuel 23 and 1 Chronicles 11. Possibly he was killed in some encounter before David reached the throne.
