( ëßìíç , apool), a term used in the N.T. only of the Lake of Gennesareth (Luk_5:1-2; Luk_8:22-23; Luk_8:33), and of the burning sulphurous pool of Hades (Rev_19:20; Rev_20:10; Rev_20:14-15; Rev_21:8). The more usual word is sea (q.v.). The principal lakes of Palestine, besides the above Sea of Tiberias, are the Dead Sea and the Waters of Merom. See each in its place.
