( Á᾿ðÜìç , _ appar. from ἀðáìÜù , to cut off), the name given in the Apocrypha (1Es_4:29) and by Josephus (Ant. 11, 3, 5) as that of a concubine of Darius (Hystaspis), of whom he was very fond, being the daughter of one of his nobles (Rabsases [? Rab-saris] Themasius, or “the admirable Bartacus”). Apama was the name of the wives of several of the Seleucid kings (see Smith's Dict. of Class. Biog. s.v.), but none of this name are assigned in history to Darius.
