), properly a gift (as often rendered) or present (Gen_32:14; Gen_19:21; Gen_43:11 sq.), especially to nobles and kings (Jdg_3:15; 1Sa_10:23; 2Ch_17:5; 2Ch_17:11; Psa_45:13; Isa_39:1; 1Ki_10:25); hence tribute from a subject nation (2Sa_8:2; 2Sa_8:6; 1Ki_5:1 [1Ki_4:21] 2Ki_17:4; Psa_72:10); but specifically an offering to God, i.e., sacrifice (Isa_1:13; 1Ch_16:29), particularly a godless one, “meat-offering,” consisting of flour, meal, or cakes, with oil and frankincense, burned upon the altar by itself, or in connection with a bloody offering Lev_2:1 sq.; Lev_7:9, etc.).
