(Gr. Abronas, Á᾿âñùíᾶò v. r. Á᾿âñùíáú v, see Fritzsche, Comment. in loc.), a stream, as it would seem, in Mesopotamia, having several considerable cities on its banks which were destroyed by Holofernes (Jdt_2:24). Some regard it as being the same with the Habor (q.v.) or Chaboras of Scripture (2Ki_17:16). But it is probably a false rendering of a bungling translator for the original Hebrews áְּòֵáֶø äִðָּäָø , beyond the river, i, e. Euphrates (see Movers, in the Bonner Zeitschr. 13:38).
