one of the most prominent members of the French episcopate, was born of humble parentage at Ceyzerieux, in France, in 1813. In 1837 he was made a priest, and soon afterwards he was appointed professor of Hebrew at the theological school of Lyons. In 1,855 he was elected bishop of Nismes, and died May 25, 1875.
