(Heb. Potiphera, ôּåֹèַé ôֶøִò ), the priest ot On, or Heliopolis, whose daughter Asenath became the witf of Joseph (Gen_41:45; Gen_41:50; Gen_46:20). B.C. cir. 1880. The name is Egyptian, and is in the Sept. accommodated to the analogy of the Egyptian language, being in the Cod. Vatican. Ðåôåöñῆ ; Alex. Ðåôôåöñῆ , v. r. Ðåíôåöñή , Ðåíôåöñß ; which corresponds to the Coptic Petephrah, belonging to the Sun, which is written in hieroglyphics thus: (Champollion, Precis, Tabl. General, p. 23).
