2. Ëßôñá , litra (Joh_12:3; Joh_19:39), is a Roman pound of twelve ounces, a libra. This pound, as used in trade and authorized by the Roman government, contained 6165 Paris grains, according to Boeckh (Metallurg. Unters. p. 160 sq.). The word ëßôñá was adopted in the Aramaean dialect, ìַéִèְøà (Buxtorf, Lex. Rabb. col. 1138). SEE WEIGHT.
