After graduating from the University of the City of New York in 1840, and Union Theological Seminary in 1843, he entered the pastorate and served various churches until 1881, when. he became professor of Didactic and Polemic Theology in McCormick Theological Seminary, where he remained until his death, January 4, 1892.
