The present condition of this town, although in ruins, fully illustrates the language of Luke in speaking of Paul's journey, being about half-way between Troas (q.v.) and Mitylene (q.v.), and therefore a convenient resting-place in the track of the coasting-trade (see Lewin, Life and Letters of St. Paul, ii, 83).
