Subjects in this Topic:

is the invariable rendering in the A..V. of the Heb. ÷ִéַåֹ , kayits (Chaid. ÷ִéַè , kayit, Dan_2:35; New Test. èÝñïò , heat), which properly signifies harvest of fruits (not of grain, which is ÷ָöַéø ), strictly the cutting-off of the fruit (Isa_16:9; Jer_8:20; Jer_48:32); specially fig-harvest, which in Palestine takes place in August, although the early figs ( áּëּåּøַéí ) ripen at the summer solstice (Isa_28:4; Mic_7:1); hence the harvest-time of figs, i.e. summer, especially midsummer, the hottest season (Psa_32:4; the droughts of summer, Pro_6:8; Pro_10:5; Pro_26:1; the summerhouse, Amo_3:15); also fruit, specially figs, as harvested (Amo_8:1-2; comp. Jer_24:1 sq.). SEE AGRICULTURE; SEE FIG; SEE HARVEST; SEE PALESTINE; SEE SEASON.
