(Heb. Tebeth', èֵáֵú , apparently of Assyrian origin, Tibituo), the tenth month (Est_2:16) of the sacred year of the Hebrews, corresponding in the main to January. Jerome has the following comment upon Eze_29:1 : “Decimus mensis, qui Hebrseis appellatur Tebeth, et apud Egyptios [with whom it was the fifth month] Ôýâé [or Ôùâß , Coptic Tobi]; apud Romanos. Januarius.” In Arabic it is called Tubah, in Greek Ôõâß or Ôήâ , and in Sanskrit Tapas. SEE CALENDAR, JEWISH.
