McClintock Biblical Encyclopedia: Trust in God
Subjects in this Topic:
signifies confidence in or dependence upon him. This trust ought to be:
1. Sincere and unreserved not in idols, in men, in talents, riches, power, in ourselves part and in him part (Pro_3:5-6);
2. Universal-body, soul, circumstances (1Pe_5:7);
3. Perpetual (Isa_26:4)
4. With a lively expectation of his blessing (Mic_7:7). The encouragement we have to trust in him arises:
1. From his liberality (Rom_8:32; Psa_84:11);
2. His ability (Jam_2:17);
3. His relationship (Psa_103:13);
4. His promise (Isa_33:16);
5. His conduct in all ages to those who have trusted him (Gen_48:15-16; Psa_37:25).
The happiness of those who trust in him is great, if we consider,
1. Their safety (Psa_125:1);
2. Their courage (Psa_27:1);
3. Their peace (Isa_26:3);
4. Their character and fruitfulness (Psa_1:3);
5. Their end (Psa_37:37; Job_5:26). SEE FAITH.
