a prominent young Methodist preacher, son of the Rev. Heman Bangs, was born in New York, March 25, 1823, graduated at the N.Y. University in 1843, and was licensed to preach in the following year, joining the N. Y. Conference. His style of preaching excited strong anticipations of great usefulness, which were, however, disappointed by his early death, March 20,1846. — Magruder, Memoir of S. B.
