an eminent Italian sculptor, was born at Rovezzano, near Florence, about 1480. In 1500 he executed the fine monument to Pietro Soderini and Oddo Altoviti, in the Church of the Carmine at Florence. He was employed conjointly with Sansovino: and Boccio Bandinelli, on the works of sculpture in the cathedral of that city. In 1515 he was employed by the monks of Vallombrosa to erect a fine monument to the memory of St. Jean Gualbert, the founder of their order. This work took him ten years to complete.
