as a noun (in the sense of current of air), is the rendering in the Auth. Vers. of ðֵùָׁîָä , neshamah' (2Sa_22:16; Psa_18:15), "breath," as elsewhere, or of øåּçִ , ru'ach (Exo_15:6; Jos_6:5; 2Ki_19:7; Job_4:9; Isa_25:4; Isa_37:7), " wind" or "spirit," as elsewhere; as a verb, etc. (in the sense of blighting), it represents the Heb. roots ùָׁãִ , shadaph', or ùָׁãִí , shadam', always spoken of the blasting of crops (Deu_28:22; 1Ki_8:37; 2Ch_6:28; Amo_4:9; Hag_2:17), especially of grain (Gen_41:6; Gen_41:23; Gen_41:27), often sudden (2Ki_19:26; Isa_37:27), apparently by a hot wind (Hackett, Illustra. of Script. p. 135).
