This Chapter Verse Commentaries:

John the Baptist's Deputation to Jesus.

Jesus returns to His prophetical work:

v. 1. And it came to pass, when Jesus had made an end of commanding' His twelve disciples, He departed thence to teach and to preach in their cities.

The Lord had commissioned the twelve apostles, giving them complete instructions as to every part of their ministry. But while they were engaged in this important work, Luk_9:6, Jesus Himself was not idle. When He had ceased giving His orders, He went away from that place, most likely to some place of retirement, where He had had the opportunity of being undisturbed with His disciples, and began a new preaching and teaching tour among the towns of Galilee, accompanied, as before, by temporary and permanent followers, the Twelve apparently returning to Him from time to time.
