4. καὶ ἀπὸ μὲν τῆς ἀληθείας τὴν ἀκοὴν ἀποστρέψουσιν κ.τ.λ., and will turn away their ears from the truth, and will turn themselves aside to the myths. On the μῦθοι see the notes on 1Ti 1:4; 1Ti 4:7; the definite article here suggests that it is not myths or fables in general which are in the writer’s mind, but the myths against which he has previously warned Timothy, as part of the stock-in-trade of the heretical teachers of the future.
