3. εἶδεν ἐν ὁράματι φανερῶς, he saw in a vision openly, i.e. he was not in a trance, as we read afterwards concerning Peter, but was employed in prayer when the angel appeared. See below Act 10:30.

ὡσεὶ περὶ ὥραν ἐνάτην, about the ninth hour. The ὡσεὶ makes the point of time less definite. Cornelius was observing the Jewish hour of prayer, and at some time during his devotions the vision was seen by him.

ἄγγελον τοῦ θεοῦ, an angel of God, called in Act 10:30 ἀνὴρ ἐν ἐσθῆτι λαμπρᾷ.
