This Chapter Verse Commentaries:

29. αἰτήσας δὲ φῶτα, and having called for lights. He would summon all the help he could, and would wish to make an inspection of his charge as speedily as possible.

ἔντρομος γενόμενος, being terror-stricken. For the word see above, Act 7:32. It is also found in LXX. Dan 10:11; Wis 17:9; 1Ma 13:2 ἔντρομος καὶ ἔμφοβος; and in Psa 17:8, Pss. 76:18 of the earth in an earthquake, ἐσαλεύθη καὶ ἔντρομος ἐγενήθη ἡ γῆ. The jailor connected all that had occurred with the two prisoners Paul and Silas, and as they were not fled away, a change of feeling came over him, and he at once judged them to be more than other men. Hence his attitude becomes one of supplication and worship.
