This Chapter Verse Commentaries:
24. καταπονουμένῳ, oppressed. The word is used 2Ma 8:2 of the suffering Jews in the time of Judas Maccabæus, though some MSS. there give καταπατούμενον = downtrodden.

πατάξας, having smitten, i.e. to death, as is seen by the context. See Exo 2:12, where the same word is used.
